Current Device menu
Use this menu to select a microphone to be used as the current sound input device.
Sample Rate menu
Use this menu to select the sample rate at which sound input is digitised.
Sample Size menu
Use this menu to select the sample size of the current microphone. Sample Editor can only work with 8-bit samples.
Use this area to pick an input channel to record from.
Click this option to input sound from the left channel of a stereo microphone.
Click this option to input sound from the right channel of a stereo microphone.
Use this area to choose miscellaneous microphone features.
Click this option to select Automatic Gain Control for the chosen microphone. This automatically compensates for fluctuations in the input level preventing distortion of loud sounds.
Click this option to select Play Thru for the chosen microphone. This lets you hear the incoming sound through the Macintosh’s internal speaker.
Click this button to display a dialogue box which allows you to select more specific options for the chosen microphone, if any are available.
